small portable speaker for my nord electro5d

Postby luckyluca » 26 Aug 2016, 10:05

hi, this is my first post, i just purchased a nord electro 5d 61 and the gig bag.

I'm now looking for a small portable speaker to carry in the front pouch, something that would respond well at very low volume as I'm going to use it in a quiet house in the evenings and occasionally at a friend's place.

any recommendations?

i was also planning to use the headphonesout to the speaker's auxin. as you can imagine I'm more concerned about portability than sound fidelity at this moment in my life.

ue boom 2, jbl flip 3 come to mind

thks
Luca

I can't speak to either of those you mentioned, but I recently tried hooking my NE5 to a jawbone jambox (y cable R/L out to stereo 1/8" in) on a recent vacation and was quite pleased with the sound quality. It's a stereo little box so even panning effects were coming through. Granted, I have the big jambox and that wouldn't fit in the front pocket of the nord bag, but the smaller version would.

Arguably one of the best in this mini category is the Bose mini II. Reasonable battery life, surprisingly rich sound given its size, some hints of bass, and a smudge of stereo separation. Not loud enough to keep up with other electric instruments. Nice for listening to music in the kitchen, office, etc. I own two. Connect via a custom cable, e.g. two 1/4 jacks to a single 1/8" stereo.

I think I have gear issues ....

But, if I understood correctly, this bose isn't usable with keyboards... it's right?

You'll need the right cable. Works pretty well when I tried it, but I prefer larger speakers when I play, or headphones. I'm assuming you only want very moderate levels of volume.

Why would you think it wouldn't be usable?

IK Multimedia iLoud speakers sound fantastic for what they are!
No latency that I can feel on the line in.
Might be to big for you since it does not fit into the front pouch. (Almost but you can't close the zipper)
