Hardware Compressor for Hammondaction

Postby brabrab » 19 Oct 2011, 17:02

Hey guys,

I don't know if this topic is set on the right place, so I'm sorry for that.

I'm looking for a hardware compressor for my Electro 3. It's not for recording stuff, but for live and stage performances. I know there is a compressor function on the Electro 3, but when I'm playing the B3, I just want to use the Rotary speaker and not that compressor. The problem is, when you put down some drawbars and play an octave higher, the sound becomes very loud and killing for ears. Especially when you use some overdrive. And it's difficult do compensate this at the same time with your Gain or Main level.

So I'm looking for a small compressor (like a guitar compressor) for my Electro 3. I prefer stereo sound, but mono is acceptable. Do you guys know/use anything?

Thanks!

hi Brabrab,

I don't think a compressor will solve your problem. You have to adjust the level of your sound for the loudest drawbar/effect combination with the expression pedal at its full position, and then use the expression pedal to play at different levels. For soft levels you won't have as much overdrive as for higher levels, but it is because it works this way in the real world.

Hello,
A Hammond exhibits mild compression when you add notes to a chord, but it can't be found on clonewheels. So a hardware compressor well adjusted might be a good way to hear Hammond sound.
I have an expression pedal to adapt the sound levels, but its use is quite complicated on stage. The less I use it the better it is, especially for the sound engineer.
