Good sound solution for Nordstage 2

Postby uro-frank » 22 Apr 2017, 18:45

Hi...

I recently have two Yamaha HS8 studiomonitors and a Yamaha MG12XU mixer, but the sound of the Nordstage 2 EX88, especially grandpianos and E-pinaos are not like I wish... (for example like with headhones). Now I am searching for a better solution for the exercise room, but eventually also for small performances.

Is it better to take a special keyboard-amplifier like aspen pittman CPS Spacestation V3 for best Piano and Hammond sound?

Or should I take something like

Bose L1 Model 1 or 2 + B2
QSC K10 oder new 10.2 or something like this?

The price is not the most important criteria, rather than sound and transportability (not more than about 15 to 20 kg each part).

Thanks for help and sorry for my not perfect english (I am from germany, perhaps there are reading some germans also?)

Hi,

As for sound, weight, flexibility and good looking there's nothing better than BOSE. If you can afford 2 for being stereo you have real good and powerful stuff. I love mine, for sure the best solution I ever had!

Eumel- do you use two Bose L1 compacts for stereo, or another Bose product?. Any issues with phase cancellation with a Bose for R and L channels given the wide dispersal of sound (180degrees)? How do the Nord piano patches in particular sound through the Bose speakers?? I am considering getting two Bose L1 compacts for use with my Nord Piano 3.

Now at this time I am thinking about following systems...

Bose L1 Model 1S/B2 (very expensive, stereo is to expensive at the moment) https://www.thomann.de/de/bose_l1_model_1s_b2.htm
LD-Systems Maui 11 G2 https://www.thomann.de/de/ld_systems_maui_11_g2.htm
QSC K 10 oder 10.2 oder 12.2 https://www.thomann.de/de/qsc_k_10.2.htm?ref=search_rslt_qsc+k10.2_412312_0
Yamaha DSR112 https://www.thomann.de/de/yamaha_dsr112.htm?ref=search_prv_5 (very heavy)
HK Audio Lucas Nano 300 oder 608i https://www.thomann.de/de/hk_audio_lucas_nano_608i.htm?ref=search_prv_3
RCF TT 08-A https://www.thomann.de/de/rcf_tt_08.htm?ref=search_prv_5

What do you think? :thanks:

Agreed. If you want to get the best from the Nord pianos, the RCF TT-08 is the way to go.

Not sure if anybody's using these. Should sound good.

Hi jdwosh,

I use two BOSE L1 compact. There's no noticeable cancellation. The root cause for that nice fact is, that the mid/hi speakers are pretty small in diameter so that the crossover frequency is quite high. I'd guess at least 400 Hz. Due to that the wavelengths coming from the tops are pretty short, so that the destructive points and constructive points are pretty close to each other in the interference field.

Additionally it's pretty cool that if you use the BOSE L1 with just one pole, it's a very good monitor at the same time.

Hope my answer helps.

Cheers

Eumel
